The Vehicle Dynamics Integrate Management system prevents a loss of traction using individual-wheel braking and throttle activation. On the 460, it works with the variable gear-ratio steering to maintain control. The available adaptive headlights that help drivers see around bends in the road are standard on the 450h. New this year on both 350 and 460 models is a standard brake override system. The company recently surpassed 1 million fans on Facebook, and to mark the occasion, designers have churned out the hybrid 911 racer with the signatures of over 27,000 Porsche fans. The vehicle is set to be on display at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart for all to see.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The German automaker says that it chose the 911 GT3 R Hybrid for the Facebook celebration because Porsche believes that the car is the future of racing. The machine packs 480 horsepower from a 4.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine and two electric motors capable of 80 horsepower each. Unlike most hybrids, Porsche has opted to store the vehicle's energy in a flywheel accumulator that gets a boost during braking instead of a traditional battery pack. The agreement will see BMW build four-cylinder units, which feature stop-start, at its Hams Hall engine plant in the UK. Saab will use them in its new 9-1 supermini.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The contract was signed by BMW Sales and Marketing board member Ian Robertson and Saab boss, Jan΅ke Jonsson, in Trollhättan at Saab’s base in Sweden. Both companies have agreed not to disclose any financial or contract volume details.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“We are continuing to expand our powertrain system sales business worldwide as planned as part of our Strategy Number ONE. Today’s agreement marks another important milestone along this route,” explained Robertson.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“We are delighted to support Saab with our engine expertise. The &lt;i&gt;AutoWeek&lt;/i&gt; editors at the show found plenty to look at and debate over to decide which vehicles deserved our Editors' Choice awards for the show.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The 2010 &lt;i&gt;AW&lt;/i&gt; Editors' Choice Award winners for the best of Beijing are:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;BEST IN SHOW: Mercedes-Benz Shooting Break Concept&lt;/b&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In much the same way that the Mercedes-Benz CLS rewrote the rules for sedan styling when it first appeared, the Shooting Break Concept will change the way we think about station wagons. Like the CLS, the Shooting Break is a four-door, but with the same kind of swoopy design that evokes a traditional two-door shooting brake. Given that the concept is penciled in for production as the wagon version of the next-gen CLS sedan that will debut at this fall's Paris motor show, we can't think of a car at Beijing that will leave a more lasting impression.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;“The Shooting Break was a clear choice as Best in Show. The car might not see the showroom, but Ford promises that the 1.0-liter turbocharged I3 engine is destined for use in future Ford small cars, where it is expected to deliver the same power as a 1.6-liter I4. The packaging is right for China and beyond, and the powertrain is perfect for buyers looking for what ought to be one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles on the planet. The little 2+2's gullwing doors give it a sense of joy that only a Chinese company that knows no boundaries can build into its cars. The small van will apparently be based on a stretched version of the current Prius platform, will add a third row of seats and should be the first production Toyota hybrid with a lithium ion battery pack. Toyota is currently testing a fleet of plug-in Prius hybrids with lithium batteries, but those aren't slated for production until 2012.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The seven-seat Alpha is expected to be about one foot longer than the current Prius hatchback, while a shorter, five-seat version of the Alpha that may look similar to the Hybrid-X concept from 2007 and could retain the nickel-metal hydride batteries of the current Prius to keep costs down. This puts it ahead of Toyota(130.1 g/km), Peugeot (133.6 g/km), Renault (137.5 g/km), Citroen (137.9 g/km), Ford (140.0 g/km), Opel/Vauxhall (148.9 g/km), Volkswagen (150.4 g/km), Audi (160.9 g/km) and Mercedes (176.4 g/km).&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p&gt;Fiat also ranked first among the motor groups (131.0 g/km), ahead of Toyota, PSA, Renault and Hyundai.&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p&gt;The statistics show the average emissions figure for every vehicle Fiat sold in Europe in 2009, and also means that Fiat has beaten the European average target of 130 g/km five years ahead of its 2015 implementation.&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p&gt;This eco-friendly achievement is the result of a long-term Fiat strategy based on a two-pronged approach: implementing technological solutions aimed at containing consumption and emissions, and raising the awareness of motorists to spur a more responsible, eco-compatible use of their cars.&lt;/p&gt;   &lt;p&gt;Unique engines, such as the new 900cc, 95 g/km Twin-Air two-cylinder and second-generation 1.3 MultiJet engines delivering power of up to 95hp, are part of that strategy. &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana;"&gt;The prototype model looks thoroughly worked over thanks to the wide body kit that further accentuates the Prius hybrid's wedgy shape.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;span class="fullpost"&gt; &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana;"&gt;Together with the new nose job that boasts massive Lamborghini-styled air-vents, the Prius CPC gets custom-made fenders, beefy side skirts, new rear bumper with an integrated diffuser and side spoilers, and a large rear wing made out of carbon fiber.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana;"&gt;Carbon fiber is also the material of choice for the new hood, roof, the cameras on the doors that replace the exterior mirrors and the rear panel on the trunk door.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana;"&gt;The uniquely styled 18-inch alloy wheels that are shod on 215/40 R18 Goodyear tires sum up the exterior modifications.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana;"&gt;The Fast and Furious / Racing theme is continued inside with the addition of gauges on top of the dashboard and just above the new steering wheel that's wrapped in Alcantara.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana;"&gt;The same material is also used to trim the new Recaro bucket seats and most parts of the cabin.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana;"&gt;Despite the go-fast looks, the only performance mods on the Prius CCP concerns the high-performance brake system and the sports suspension that lowers the car's ride height by 10mm up front and 15mm at the rear.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: Verdana; &lt;br /&gt; French automaker Peugeot will pull the wraps off a brand-new concept vehicle called the SR1 at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Unlike a number of recent Peugeot cars and concepts, the SR1 isn't hallmarked by quirky, love-it-or-hate-it styling. Instead, we see a somewhat traditional long-hood, short-deck profile with some interesting details, such as the creased indentation in the doors that's echoed in both the front and rear fascias. Also note the redesigned Lion logo, which we surmise will show up on all future Peugeots from here on out.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Power for the SR1 (which, of course, has nothing at all to do with the Corvette ZR1) comes courtesy of Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology, which pairs a small 1.6-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder engine powering the front wheels with a 95-horsepower electric motor at the rear. Peugeot says that its all-wheel drive, through-the-road hybrid system will make its production debut in 2011 inside the 3008 crossover, with other models to closely follow.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Other concept-appropriate bits and pieces include a new removable plastic roof panel using technology that's borrowed from the world of sailing, a three-seat layout with the third passenger behind the twin front seats and instrumentation that pairs futuristic crystal tubes displaying current fuel consumption and remaining range with a classic timepiece designed by Bell &amp;amp; Ross. Continuing the old versus new theme are black nickel and satin chrome trim with traditional wood and leather inlays.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; With 313 combined horsepower, fuel mileage estimated at 57.7 mpg (European, 48 miles per gallon U.S.) and carbon emissions of just 119 grams per kilometer, the Peugeot SR1 ought to be a mean, green performer. Plus, its speed-sensitive four-wheel steering and lightweight structure should equal formidable handling prowess. Exhibit Z: the Grand Sport Blanc Noir edition, which follows the trio of Dubai specials into the Veyron special sunset.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Apparently created for a high-end clothier, the Veyron Blanc Noir appears to be a one-off (like the Pegaso) rather than a limited-production run (like the Fbg par Hermes). Based on the targa-roofed Grand Sport, the Black Noir edition – spotted in California – is all done up, as the name suggests, in black and white: a matte white body with glossy black hood, wheels, spoiler, fuel filler cap and more. And of course, there's the requisite nameplate on the lower front corner of the door. Delahaye, Voisin, Bugatti, Talbot-Lago (including the high-water mark Figoni et Falaschi "Tear Drop" cars), etc. Prewar, no one had anything on the French. Even Peugeot and Citroën were in on the action; the former producing the elegant 402 and the latter building the glorious Traction Avant.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; However, after the Great Depression and post-WW2 auto shakeout, the scenery changed. Sure, Citroën still had a few design masterpieces left in the tank - the 2CV, the DS and SM. Peugeot made some excellent cars (205, 404) but they certainly weren't lookers. Then a few years back, Peugeot bought Citroën. Since that time, Peugeots have become wildly bizarre-looking, while Citroën has produced exactly one beauty, the C6. Point being, France's automotive designs are a far cry from their prewar glory days.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; PSA Peugeot Citroën wants to change that trajectory. Under PSA design leadership of Jean-Pierre Ploué, Gilles Vidal has taken over design of Peugeot and Thierry Metroz is now in charge of how Citroëns look. Metroz might have an easy time of it, as Ploué has to some degree set Citroën on a halfway righteous path. Again, we're big fans of the big C6 and in truth, the C3 and DS3 are pretty much OK-looking as well. Monsieur Gilles, however, has his work cut out for him. Have you looked at a 3008 or an 807 lately? It's making its way Stateside, first to next week's Detroit Auto Show, then to a Scion dealer near you as a hybrid. This is according to a scoop by Inside line. We've known for a while now that the iQ will be showing up as a Scion, just not for certain as a hybrid. Also, according to IL, the fate of the brand hangs in the balance. Also-also, they might (yay!) drop the name iQ.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; That's right, the diminutive Toyota with the silly name is going to greet us as a youth-branded Scion. In multiple flavors, too. First will come a five-door hatchback, followed next by a four-door sedan. The latter is almost a little puzzling – who on earth wants a four-door sedan version – but then we recall all the other cars PR types tell us the American market forces into four-door guise and we're not surprised one bit. The Scion iQ will also come as a three-door hatch. Expect the five-door to show up first, towards the end of 2011.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; The engine options are pretty interesting. If you so desire, a 1.3-liter four-banger will produce 93 horsepower. However, most folks will probably opt for the hybrid version. First of all, the gas and electric propulsion is so cheap that Toyota will be able to sell it for $15,000 or less. Second, expect a 1.5-liter four and some sort of electric motor to produce between 100 and 120 hp and return 60 mile per gallon. Not bad at all. Again, Inside Line ends their scoop explaining that if the iQ doesn't get youngsters buying Scions, nothing will. Inspired by the Qazana concept shown in Geneva last year, and following in the footsteps of the hugely successful Qashqai, the 'Juke' is designed to offer customers a funky alternative to the traditional small hatchback.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;From this dimly-lit photo it's clear that the concept car's swollen wheels arches have been carried over, along with the narrow, elongated headlights and oversize fog lights underneath. It appears the 370Z-inspired rear boomerang lights will also make production, while the windscreen and roofline have taken on a more angular profile.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Slotting in between the Note and Qashqai, the Juke will expand Nissan's broad range even further. Because Playboy doesn't pick a winner based on such tangible criteria as horsepower, miles per gallon or MSRP. They don't care so much about the fastest, greenest or most significant car in its segment. They care about cool. Which car is going to get you to that VIP event and make all eyes turn towards you on arrival? For 2010, Playboy says that car is the Porsche Panamera.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; We can absolutely understand where &lt;em&gt;Playboy&lt;/em&gt; is coming from here. You just have to imagine yourself as Hugh Hefner: Porsches are both cool and fast, but a Porsche that can accommodate me, my smoking jacket and &lt;em&gt;three&lt;/em&gt; bunnies is worthy of a place in the Playboy Mansion garage and perhaps an X-rated car wash in the driveway.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Playboy gave out eight other awards in such categories as Best Horsepower Value (Nissan 370Z), Best Mean and Green (Ford Fusion Hybrid) and Best Reborn Beauty (Ford Taurus SHO) among others. But with the new-for-’11 Buick Regal, GM finally may have found the right home and, more importantly, the right strategy for injecting some Germanic soul into its American cars.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;The new sports sedan arrives stateside in second-quarter 2010 after highly successful launches late last year in China and in Germany as the Opel Insignia.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;!--end paragraph--&gt;                &lt;!--begin paragraph--&gt; &lt;p&gt;The Insignia is drawing rave reviews on its home turf, where it ranks as the best-selling sedan in its class and since last November has racked up more than 30 awards, including European Car of the Year.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;!--end paragraph--&gt;                &lt;!--begin paragraph--&gt; &lt;p&gt;In China, the locally built Regal launched in December and has sold some 64,000 units. But little differs in styling between the Insignia and Regal. Aside from the Buick grille and 3-shield badges, sheet metal is exactly the same.&lt;/p&gt; &lt;!--end paragraph--&gt;                &lt;!--begin paragraph--&gt; &lt;p&gt;In fact, Buick’s signature port holes will not get stamped into the Regal’s hood until production begins in North America in 2011. GM declines to offer a timetable for the Regal’s manual transmission. However, the scheme has been amended so that, as long as an order comes in by the end of 2009, it will benefit. The car uses the Camaro's frame and the Corvette's motor and suspension. The motor is mounted amidships, albeit backwards (note the throttle body). And the House of Kolor paint is called Pagan Gold. Also, you should not confuse this SEMA all-star Ghepardo with the 2006 Bizzarrini Ghepardo concept.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; As for this Ghepadro... it's not that bad looking. In fact, the longer we stare at the exterior, the more we like what we see. Obviously we can't get past the gaudy chainmail armor covering up every single vent and opening. And we'd prefer if the five-slot wheels weren't chromed. That said, in profile, it's a nice looking mid-engine coupe and the rear is quite muscular. The front even has a touch of new Lexus, which while sacriligious for a Chevy-on-Chevy mashup like this, ain't bad at all.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; The interior, on the other hand, is a house of horrors. Everything is covered over in prison-grade Alcantara or carbon fiber-&lt;em&gt;look&lt;/em&gt; fiberglass. Even the fire extinguisher!! Also, we're pretty sure a 15/16" cutting tool isn't the smartest Dremel attachment to use for a show car. In fact, in this Autoblogger's mind, the Ghepardo is now in the running neck-and-neck with the Masonry Vitesse Rose for having the &lt;strong&gt;&lt;em&gt;worst interior ever&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/strong&gt; – quite a distinction! Additionally, the Ghepardo fills our minds with the delightful image of Corvette and Camaro fans/owners beating each other to pulps with giant oversized cartoon hammers. It appears defective floor mats doesn't tell the whole story, as the Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration declared in a statement that "this (unintended acceleration) matter is not closed," adding "removal of the floor mats is simply an interim measure, not a remedy of the underlying defect in the vehicles."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Up to 2,000 Toyota customers claim to have experienced a sudden surge of acceleration, and some reportedly told &lt;em&gt;ABC News&lt;/em&gt; that they didn't even &lt;em&gt;have&lt;/em&gt; the recalled floor mats in their vehicles. Even more disturbing are the results of an &lt;em&gt;ABC News &lt;/em&gt;investigation that reportedly found "hundreds" of accidents and up to 16 deaths as a result of unintended acceleration.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Four of those deaths occurred in August when an off-duty California Highway Patrol Officer, traveling with his wife, daughter and brother in-law, were killed after their Lexus accelerated uncontrollably. The driver's brother in-law called 911 and said that the brakes didn't work before the vehicle reached an intersection, struck another car, went into a ditch and caught fire. Some Toyota owners feel there is an electronic glitch in the system that controls the throttle and the ABC report shows that there is some anecdotal evidence which illustrates that incidents rose after the system was put into place in 2002, but so far, NHTSA has found no evidence to support those claims after six investigations.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; &lt;em&gt;ABC News&lt;/em&gt; caught up with Toyota Vice President Yukitoshi Funo (pictured second from left) and asked him if Toyota was covering anything up. Funo replied "It is not part of the Toyota culture and Toyota way to cover up anything," adding that the Japanese automaker is working with NHTSA to come up with an agreement on how to proceed going forward.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; If you own a Toyota or Lexus and you are concerned about this issue, it appears that there is little that will be done in the short term other than tie down or remove the floor mats. If you do experience the acceleration issue, Consumer Reports suggests shifting your vehicle into neutral, pressing the brake and holding it down in an effort to bring your vehicle to a stop. In a bid to make the program more user friendly on the fly, it's reworked its interface to make it easier to edit the visual representations for the virtual (and customizable) gauges and graphs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt; Although it's $39.99 App Store price seems like a deal considering its capabilities, the steep price of the company's wireless OBD-II controller ($149.99, pictured at right) is slightly harder to swallow. However, DevToaster is working on bringing the cost of the unit down in the near future and hopes to bring out both a series of "fun," "green" utilities and has talked with Google about developing a version for Android phones.   &lt;div class="overview_dataArea"&gt; The 2009 Lexus RX is offered in two primary models: the RX 350, which is powered by a 270-horsepower, 3.5L V6, and the RX 400h, which has an advanced hybrid system combining a 3.3L V6 and an electric motor system, making a combined total&lt;br /&gt;of 268 horsepower.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The 400h's Lexus Hybrid Drive is a "full hybrid" system, meaning it can operate on electric power in some low-speed stop-and-go conditions, greatly increasing fuel efficiency. Utilizing battery packs located underneath the rear seats, the system recovers some energy during braking and coasting. Electric motors assist the gasoline engine with extra power for accelerating and passing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Both RX models are offered in either front-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive versions. In the RX 350, the available full-time all-wheel drive system has a viscous limited-slip center differential and distributes power to the front and rear wheels with a 50/50-split in normal driving, sending more to the wheels with more traction when needed. In the 400h, an electric motor drives the rear wheels independently.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;According to Lexus, both the front-wheel-drive version of the RX 350 and the RX 400h can accelerate to 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. The 400h, however, has superior fuel economy ratings of 27 mpg city, 24 mpg highway.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Extra attention has been paid to noise and vibration in the RX. Vibration-canceling engine mounts, an acoustic windshield, and extra sound insulation are used. There's also an available air suspension system, which has four ride-height settings. A "high"&lt;br /&gt;mode is designed for rough surfaces at speeds slower than 30 mph. "Low" mode lowers ride height by 0.6 inches for improved handling, and an even lower "access" mode for easier entry, exit, and loading.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All RX models have five-passenger seating, with a 40/20/40 split folding rear seatback that both slides and reclines. With the seats folded down, the 28.3-cubic-foot cargo capacity can be expanded to nearly 85 cubic feet.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All RX models have extensive safety features, including vehicle stability control (VSC), anti-lock brakes with brake assist, side curtain air bags, front-seat-mounted side air bags, and a driver's knee air bag. On 400h models, there's also the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system, which seamlessly integrates many of the vehicles systems, including the ABS, VSC, traction control, and steering assist, to enable it to more quickly anticipate the loss of control and make&lt;br /&gt;corrections.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Both the RX 350 and RX 400h are available very well equipped, and include a power liftgate, dual-zone automatic climate control, ten-way-adjustable power front seats, real wood interior trim, and heated auto-dimming exterior mirrors. &lt;div class="blue_heading12pxOverview"&gt;2009 Lexus RX 350 Model Changes&lt;/div&gt; For 2009, the Lexus RX lineup sees few changes, with a new Pebble Beach Edition RX now available. The final question of the segment came from a viewer wondering why GM has failed to offer U.S. consumers the chance to buy some of the high-mileage diesel cars it offers in Europe.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It would appear that LaNeve might have done better to take a pass on the question. Instead of talking about the cost of making those diesels meet U.S. emissions regulations or the difficulty in helping Americans overcome the misconceptions about the fuel, he claimed that no one has successfully cracked the diesel passenger nut in the U.S. (&lt;a href="http://www.autobloggreen.com/2009/06/03/vw-clean-diesels-have-best-sales-month-since-launch-in-june/"&gt;which based on VW's May sales appears to be wrong&lt;/a&gt;). More startlingly, LaNeve went on to claim that diesel is $1.25 a gallon more expensive than gasoline. According to the Energy Information Agency, the national average for &lt;a href="http://tonto.eia.doe.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pri_gnd_dcus_nus_w.htm"&gt;diesel this week is $2.35 / gallon&lt;/a&gt; while regular gas is $2.52 or $0.17 more than diesel.
